Creating a Strong Password: The Song Method
Your password should be a minimum of 10 digits in length. It should include at least one of each: upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols. It should contain no words or dates. Here is how you do it.
- Choose a song
- Choose lyrics
- First letter of each word
Follow these steps:
Choose a familiar song that you know the words to:
For example, “Happy Birthday” (DO NOT choose this song!)
- Choose 8-10 words from the lyrics:
Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you (Eight word minimum. Ten is better!)
- Select the first letter of each word in your chosen phrase:
Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you = hbtyhbty
- Add Upper and Lower Case Letters:
Capitalize the letter at the beginning of each phrase
Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you = HbtyHbty
- Add Numbers:
What number does that letter look like? (b=6, B=8, S=5, g=9, E=3, i=1, L=1) Don’t use zero (0) or the letter ‘O’.
Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you = H6tyH6ty
- Add Symbols:
Add a slash or dash between phrases, an exclamation mark at the end, or something else you can remember.
Hooray! You’re done!
